Sharing is caring!

What Is A Good Christian?

Most people attempt to live a good christian life and be a good neighbor, people who read their bible regularly receive comfort, guidance and encouragement. Who are your neighbors, for a christian everyone they meet are their neighbors? It is not just the people who live next door to you or across the street, a good christian treats everyone they meet like their next door neighbor. You should not judge others, even those who are non-christian’s you should accept them for who they are and treat them like you would treat anyone in your church family. Most people like and respect Bill Graham, these are his own guidelines he recommends you live by?

How To Love Your Neighbor?

How well do you know your neighbors, today many people barely know anything about the people who live next door to them? The majority of neighbors greet one another with a hi or wave as they are coming and going, people do not make the time to socialize and get to know their neighbors like they did in the past. When is the last time you invited any of your neighbors over for dinner or tea, what about organizing your neighborhood to get together once a month during the summer for a neighborhood picnic? More people know what type of vehicle their neighbor drives than what their neighbors favorite hobby might be, a good christian neighbor goes out of their way to spend time with their neighbors. How can you show more love towards your neighbors, maybe next time you and God have a talk you should ask him and listen closely?

New Neighbors

A new family is moving in a few houses down from you, how would a good christian welcome a new family into the neighborhood? In the old days people brought over a cake or a tasty dish to welcome a new family into the neighborhood, the least you could do is to visit them and introduce yourself and offer if they ever need anything feel free to knock on your door. This really is not too much for anyone to do, maybe you could invite them to the neighborhood nature walk every Sunday afternoon? It is very easy to know how to be a good christian neighbor, love your neighbor and treat them with kindness.

Family Tragedy

When you hear of a family who is dealing with an emotional tragedy, the christian thing to do is to give them some encouragement, if you do not feel bold enough to do it face to face send them a greeting card. This is a very simple and kind gesture on your part, but it can make a difference to the family struggling at this time? You are a gardener and your harvest is more than you can use, consider giving some of your harvest to a needy family. So many families are struggling today with the high-priced economy, this could help a family so much and it would be a kind thing for you to do. Maybe you are shy about approaching someone you do not really know, if you happen to find them on face book, send them a friend request introducing yourself.

Rewards Of Being A Good Neighbor

Healthy relationships are very important for people to be happy and content with their lives, loving your neighbors and helping them out when you can is something you will cherish. When we give to others with expecting nothing in return, the joy we provide to the person or family is our reward. Many elderly people live alone, by you reaching out to them you are helping them to not isolate and this is much healthier for them. Many people have a fear today of being taken advantage of, by you reaching out and helping someone who you barely know is good for you to overcome your fear of strangers taking advantage of you.

What Is On My Mind Today?

Being a good christian is about helping others when the opportunities become available, start walking through your neighborhood and anyone who is out in their yard stop and talk to them for a  while. Our society has drove the fear into us not to talk to strangers, this might be good when we are children, but as adults we will never meet new people and find new friends.? Focus on positive people in your neighborhood who live alone, many times these people would love your company. You will experience rude unfriendly neighbors who might even hurt your feelings and offend you, you must not allow these people to stop you from practicing to be a good christian neighbor.

There is not enough kindness in this world and the principle of loving your neighbor is important. Now more that ever, communities need to join together and watches out for each other. It always good to have a church family to lean on too.

    • Thank You Heather,

I do agree we should be more supportive to our neighbors and community, especially now with crime
so high and people struggling to make ends meet.

I totally believe in self-improvement. I’ve always felt that we should all help each other. That’s why God put us on this earth. I love to read about anything that has to deal with paying it forward. It doesn’t matter what it is. Just do it. You’ll feel better afterward. Just letting an elderly person (or anyone for that matter) go in front of you in line at the grocery store. There’s many things you can do. Would love to see someone list something humanitarian that they’ve done?

      Thank You Rob

I also try to think of others before myself, I am one of those people who hold the door open for others and allow others to go before me in the grocery lines

Thanks for writing this article. There are some good points you in the article about being a good Christian.

I am a Christian myself and sometimes I forgot to live like a Christian. For example, “how to love your neighbor”. People these days are so busy, they don’t even know about their neighbors.

Hope to read more articles like this on your website.

      Thank You Raynold

I did write that article for one of the reasons you shared, many of us barley know our neighbors if we know them at all.

  • JeffWA says:

Being the product of a religious and very wise mother, she often taught many concepts to my sister and I growing up.

One, treat others as you would like to be treated. Never look down on a person or judge a person by his/her looks. My mom called the last one, “never judge a book by its cover”.

She also had a saying regarding people who might be disagreeable to you, to “kill them with kindness”. Treat a person with a smile and be pleasant to him/her.

Being a Christian neighbor means caring for others, sometimes more than yourself. It does not take a lot of effort to smile and be friendly towards others.

I feel that the world is so messed up as it is because people have turned their backs completely on their Faiths.

Instead of love in this world, there is a lot of hate.Instead of helping our fellow mankind we look down at scorn on others who we perceive as being different from ourselves.

If we as human beings could show respect towards others instead of allowing feelings of prejudice, bigotry and hatred invade so many souls, this world would be a much better place.
