How To Play The Ocarina-Music Can Change Our Lives Dramatically

Sharing is caring!

Playing The Ocarina

The ocarina is a flute which provides the sweetest sounding music, you might remember the ocarina from the legend of Zelda. This is one of the easiest musical instruments to learn to play, you will never go wrong learning to play the ocarina.

Playing The Ocarina

Hold the ocarina so your right hand is on the side of the musical instrument and your left hand is on the opposite side of your right hand.

You will use the pad or fleshy part of your fingers to cover each hole on the ocarina flute, you must make sure you cover each hole completely to play the sweetest notes. The hole on the back of the ocarina should always be open, you will find with a little practice you will be playing this musical instrument in a short time.

Using your little finger on your left hand you will brace this musical instrument, you might find this odd at first but before you know it will be natural for you.

Start playing this musical instrument flute by blowing softly on the low notes and then blow a little harder as you go up the note scale, you will find blowing just hard enough to get a clear, crisp note will produce the sweetest notes.

Using your tongue by saying the letter T at the beginning of each note will give each note a crisp, clear sound, you will experience this technique to make such a dramatic difference in the sound of your music played by this musical instrument flute.

Begin with a simple song you are familiar with works best for most beginners, I recommend you consider twinkle twinkle little star or Mary had a little lamb as your first song to learn to play.

Focusing on your breath control and how hard you blow is the key, you should allow your ear to guide you when learning to play these two beginner songs.

What Is On My Mind Today?

I focused on the six hole ocarina since this is the best ocarina in my opinion for most beginners to learn to play, you can purchase four hole ocarina and twelve hole ocarina musical instruments as well. You can play all your favorite songs on the sixth hole and it is easier for most beginners to learn than the twelve hold starting out, but whichever hole type of ocarina you choose you will be amazed how easy it will be to learn to play your favorite songs.

I love that you have a guide for playing the ocarina! My 5 year old grandson and I have been playing Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, and he’s obsessed with it.

For his birthday, he received Link’s hat, master sword, shield, and an ocarina. We’ve been trying to play it, but haven’t had much success. I’ll definitely try it again using your guide, thank you!

This was so fascinating to me as I had never heard of an ocarina before. I had searched for music from Zelda because one of my daughters is doing a dance routine to it and this popped up. I think I’ll have to buy an ocarina for the kids to try. We will definitely return to your blog in order to learn how to use it properly. Thank you!

I was looking for a musical instrument for my 10 year old son to play (since basketball season is over) and I came across this post. It’s my first time to hear about ocarina. I checked out your videos and they seem simple to learn. I will check out the 6 holes for a start (for myself) and see if the instrument will spike an interest from my son. Any recommendation that I can get from Amazon? Thanks for the information!

      Thank You

I am happy you was motivated by my post, I would recommend you begin with a 6 hole ocarina. They are the easiest to learn to play and you can play your favorite songs, I would not purchase a 4 hole if it was me.
