Shopping For A Beginner Guitar

I was motivated to write this post from my own frustration of shopping for a beginners guitar; I am an experienced guitarist of the past, but I have not played a guitar for a very long time. I was forced to sell many of my precious treasures to pay off some of my past due medical expenses. Those treasures were my passions in my life at that time, I had to sell my guitar, my photography equipment, and even my woodworking tools.

Recommended Guitars From Experienced Guitarists

Since then I have been craving to replace my guitar, but I just have not been able to decide on which guitar I want to buy. Even though I played the guitar in the past, I am open to starting with a beginner guitar, so I have been doing research plus I have done surveys from guitar groups on Facebook to get the opinion from experienced guitarists.

  • Taylor GS Mini
  • Taylor Big Baby Taylor
  • Taylor Dreadnought Academy A10
  • Yamaha F3250
  • Yamaha FG 800
  • Fender CD 60 SCE
  • Epiphone DR 500 MCE
  • Yamaha FS 800
  • Yamaha Gigmaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Package
  • Ibanez AE 61211 NT

You might be surprised as I was from my surveys there was no Gibson guitars recommended as a good beginner guitar by these experience guitarists, I have not found out if Gibson just does not make beginner guitars or they just are not considered high-quality beginner guitars? This survey was conducted on the price of around five hundred dollars or less, so this might be the reason Gibson is not included in this list by these experienced guitarists?

Taylor GS Mini

  • Top Choice Guitar For Beginners By Experienced Guitarists
  • Grand Symphony Body Style
  • Scale Length 23-1/2″
  • Body Length 17 5/8
  • Body Width 14 3/8
  • Body Depth 4 7/16
  • Overall Length 36 5/8
  • 20 Frets

The Taylor GS Mini is highly recommended by experienced guitarists for beginners and advanced players as well, but the price is probably the biggest negative factor for many beginners might not wish or can’t afford to invest so much into their first guitar?

Big Baby Taylor

  • Body Type Dreadnought 15/16
  • 20 Frets
  • Body Width 15′
  • Body Depth 4′
  • Body Length 19 1/2
  • Overall Length 40 1/4
  • $ 399.00

The Big Baby Taylor guitar was a close runner-up in the survey for the best beginner guitars, you will notice the Taylor brand took the three top places recommended by guitarists as the best beginner guitars. Again the most negative factor would be the price, you will find this guitar is only one hundred dollars less than the GS Mini which was a big favorite in the survey.

Taylor Dreadnought Academy A10

  • Body Style Dreadnought 15/16
  • 20 Frets
  • $ 599.00

This guitar I could not find much information on for the body dimensions as the other guitars, you will see this guitar is a bit on the high price for most beginners to pay. You can get this guitar right now at Guitar Center on sale for $ 499.00, so if there is a guitar center near you maybe you would like to visit and check out their guitars.

Yamaha F3250

  • Good Quality
  • Good Price
  • Well Known Beginner Guitar Brand

Guitar center does not have this guitar in their store at this time, so I could not get any dimensions for you. I never thought of Yamaha as a high-quality guitar myself, but several of the Yamaha guitars made the best beginner list.

Yamaha FG 800

  • Recommended For Beginners By Yamaha Themselves
  • High-Quality
  • Balanced Sound
  • Dreadnought Body Style
  • Folk Acoustic Guitar
  • Case Included
  • $ 289.98

You know exactly what you are getting with this guitar, you will be getting an awesome deal for sure. This guitar would be a great buy for someone who is just wanting a low-cost guitar to learn to play, but most people will want to upgrade to a higher-quality guitar in the future.

Ibanez AE 61011 NT

  • Extremely Attractive Guitar
  • Highly Recommended
  • Comfortable Size
  • Easy For Beginners To Play
  • 20 Frets
  • $ 299.99

Ibanez guitars are extremely appealing in appearance and are highly recommended by guitarists,  I am not familiar with this brand and many guitarists are leary about purchasing this brand since it is made in China. Some guitarists are not sure if the guitars made in China are as high-quality as the guitars made in the USA.

Fender CD 60SCE

  • Dreadnought Body
  • Good Warranty
  • Full-Size Guitar
  • 20 Frets
  • Tuner Included
  • $ 299.99

Fender used to be the guitar brand every guitarists dreamed of when I was a boy, you still are getting a high-quality guitar when you purchase a Fender guitar and they do stand behind their guitars. The price is a very reasonable price for this attractive guitar; I am surprised this is the only Fender guitar which made the best beginner guitar list.

Epiphone DR 500 MCE

  • High-Quality
  • Solid Mahogany
  • Scale Length 25 1/2
  • Rosewood Fingerboard
  • Built In Tuner
  • Fingerboard Radius 14′
  • $ 679.00

This is another guitar brand many guitarists are not convinced yet of its quality, but you are receiving lots of extra features with this guitar and the price is a bit high in my opinion for a beginner guitar.

Yamaha FS 800

  • Most Popular Yamaha Guitar Sold On Amazon
  • Well Constructed
  • Above Average Sound
  • Available In Concert Size
  • Folk Acoustic Guitar
  • Small Thin Body Style
  • Yamaha’s Best Beginner Guitar
  • Simple & Traditional Guitar
  • $ 199.99

Yamaha seems to be the beginner’s guitar for people who are not ready to invest too much money in a guitar, you can find this brand of a guitar in every music store around and they have been producing guitars for a very long time.

Yamaha Gigmaker Deluxe Acoustic Guitar Package

  • Most Popular Acoustic Guitar Beginners Package
  • Extra Set Of Guitar Strings
  • Guitar Strap
  • Guitar Picks
  • DVD
  • Chrome Tuners
  • Gig Bag
  • Digital Tuners
  • $ 199.99

This is a package which you are getting the most for your money, you will find this is the most popular beginner’s acoustic guitar package Yamaha sells consistently.

      Hello Fred,
I thank you for reading my post and commenting, you are the first person I have met who owns a Ibanez. You must really
like that brand since you play it the most, I am partial to Taylor guitars but my bank account is not ready to allow
me to own one quite yet.

I am a beginner so this is a useful guide for me. I was given an acoustic-electric several years ago that I have tried to learn on. It is not any of the brands you have listed. It is a nice guitar and when my sons play it sounds much better than when I do 🙂 It is a Seagull but not sure the model. I do not know much as you can tell. I am not sure if it was designed for a beginner or not. Would it be better to start with a guitar made for a beginner specifically? Is there something unique about them that maybe my guitar may not have?
Thank you. I know I can always count on your information to be very helpful!

      Hello Christiana,
Being a beginner puts you in the right place when you visit this website, there are better guitars for beginners to start with
to learn how to play than others. Seagull guitars were very popular guitars at one time, but you seldom see any of them today.
Yamaha is one of the least expensive guitars which is recommended for beginners, if you are a small featured person with small
hands this could be causing you some problems with the guitar you have and that could be the guitar sounds so much better when
your sons play with larger hands.

The Yamaha GigMaker Deluxe is the most popular beginner guitar package, you get everything you need to get started playing the
guitar and this guitar is suitable for younger people or people with smaller hands.

I do have the best beginner guitar value packs in my Guitar Shop, you might want to check my shop out sometime for these guitars
are made for people with smaller hands.
